FOOT CARE JOURNAL 19
Bringing the Same Care Home
The idea behind a salon treatment doesn’t have to stay in the salon. Moisture and smoothing in a single step translates surprisingly well to the bathroom at home.
The principle is the same: never file skin while it is dry and hard. Soften it first, then smooth it while it still holds moisture.
After a bath, while the skin is still warm, apply a few drops of a gentle oil or moisturizing serum to the heels and let it sit for a moment.
Then file lightly, with a fine file, in one direction. The aim isn’t to remove everything, only to even things out a little.
A thirsty outer layer
The outermost layer of the skin can take on several times its own dry weight in water. That is why the minutes right after a bath, when it is full of moisture, are the kindest time to smooth it.
Finish by wiping away any residue and moisturizing once more, then slip on a pair of socks for the night.
Between salon visits, a few minutes like this once or twice a week helps the results of a professional pedicure last longer.
And if you keep it up, how do your feet actually change?
If you have diabetes or circulation concerns, please talk to a doctor or podiatrist before filing your feet at home.
The salon idea, carried home.
At Colors Hiroo Nail Lounge, foot care is a treatment of its own, never an afterthought. Over the years, we have kept refining how we care for callused skin and heels.
It can be done in the same visit as your gel manicure or pedicure: an unhurried hour in a modern Japanese house, two minutes’ walk from Hiroo Station.
Reservations are made through Hot Pepper Beauty, an external Japanese booking site. English-language plan details are listed further down that page; please scroll down to find them.
