FOOT CARE JOURNAL 18
How Can Callus Care
Leave Skin Softer, Not Drier?
Last time, we looked at the idea of smoothing callused skin and moisturizing it at the same time. This time, a closer look at how that actually works, using the Colors PRO Foot Serum as an example.
The first part of the answer is the size of the molecules. When a moisturizing ingredient is made of large molecules, it stays on the surface and never reaches the thicker layers below.
Ingredients with smaller molecules can work their way into the outer layer of the skin. File once that has happened, and you are smoothing skin that has already softened, with far less strain than filing it dry.
The acid mantle
Healthy skin is slightly acidic on its surface. Scientists in Germany gave this thin protective film a name in 1928: the “acid mantle.” Skincare that respects it tends to be kinder to the skin.
The second part is the formula’s pH. Some callus treatments are alkaline and work by dissolving hardened skin.
A formula that is mildly acidic, like the skin itself, takes a gentler route. The Colors PRO Foot Serum is designed this way: rather than dissolving the skin, it simply prepares it to be smoothed. That difference shows in how the skin feels after the treatment.
So moisture and callus care can go together not by chance, but because two things have been considered with care: the size of the molecules, and the pH of the formula.
Once you know how it works, the familiar routine starts to look a little different.
Softer, not drier. That is the point.
At Colors Hiroo Nail Lounge, foot care is a treatment of its own, never an afterthought. Over the years, we have kept refining how we care for callused skin and heels.
It can be done in the same visit as your gel manicure or pedicure: an unhurried hour in a modern Japanese house, two minutes’ walk from Hiroo Station.
Reservations are made through Hot Pepper Beauty, an external Japanese booking site. English-language plan details are listed further down that page; please scroll down to find them.
