FOOT CARE JOURNAL 11

Skincare Begins
When You Wash Your Feet

A face gets cleanser, serum, the full evening ritual. Feet, more often than not, get a quick rinse under the shower and a hope for the best. Yet the way you wash your feet changes how well everything after it works.

The trick is to soften the skin in warm water first. Scrubbing skin while it is still dry leaves dirt behind, and puts needless strain on it.

A few minutes of soaking, in the bath or a basin, makes it easy to wash gently into the places most often missed: between the toes, around the nails, along the arch.

Once you are done, dry thoroughly with a towel, toes included. Feet left damp turn humid inside socks and shoes, which helps bacteria grow. And that, as we have seen, is where odor begins.

The gap that gets forgotten

The narrow space between the fourth and fifth toes is where athlete’s foot most often begins. It stays warm, it stays damp, and it is the spot a towel most easily skips.

Clean, soft, properly dried skin is the foundation for everything that follows, from callus care to moisturizing.

Skip it, and the next steps rarely work as well as they should.

So, on that foundation, in what order should callus care go for the gentlest result?

Build gentle care on a good foundation.

At Colors Hiroo Nail Lounge, foot care is a treatment of its own, never an afterthought. Over the years, we have kept refining how we care for callused skin and heels.

It can be done in the same visit as your gel manicure or pedicure: an unhurried hour in a modern Japanese house, two minutes’ walk from Hiroo Station.

Reservations are made through Hot Pepper Beauty, an external Japanese booking site. English-language plan details are listed further down that page; please scroll down to find them.
